Barobazar mosques

বারোবাজারের মসজিদসমূহ

A cluster of excavated brick mosques from the sultanate period, scattered among village ponds.

Barobazar mosques

Barobazar in Kaliganj was an important town in the 15th and 16th centuries, and archaeologists have uncovered several brick mosques and large ponds here. Some, like the Galakata and Jor Bangla mosques, have been restored and are used for prayer again. The site has the feel of a ruined town absorbed back into rural life. Local legend connects Barobazar with Gazi Pir and his companions.

How to get there

Barobazar lies on the Jashore–Jhenaidah road; buses stop at the bazar, then explore by van or on foot.

Good to know

Hire a local van driver who knows the scattered sites; dress modestly at active mosques.
