Sariakandi upazila sits on the right bank of the Jamuna, and much of it is water and shifting sandbank. To protect the bank, long groynes were built at Kalitola and nearby places, and these have become spots where people come to walk, sit by the river and watch the sunset. From the ghats, boats take visitors out to the chars to see village life on the river islands. In the monsoon the river is huge and fast; in winter it shrinks and the sandbars stand out.
