Locals call it the Nawabganj Shal Bagan. The forest starts about a kilometre north-west of Nawabganj upazila town and covers some 517 hectares, declared a national park in 2010. Sal and teak dominate, with gamari, jam and acacia, and orchids on some trunks. Jungle cats, fishing cats, foxes and many birds live here, though you are more likely to hear than see them. Combined with Swapnapuri and Sitakot Vihara, it makes an easy day in the upazila.
