Mandarbaria beach lies in the Sundarbans at the far south of Shyamnagar, beside the forest of the same name and the mouth of the Hariabhanga river, which marks the border with India. It is the longest beach inside the Bangladeshi Sundarbans, with mangrove forest at one end and open sea in front. There are no buildings, stalls or crowds; you may see crab trails, birds and deer tracks on the sand. Few people come because it can only be reached on a long boat trip with a forest permit.
How to get there
Only by boat. Go from Satkhira to Shyamnagar and on to Munshiganj or Burigoalini, then join a licensed tour or hire a trawler with a forest permit and guide.
Good to know
Travel only with a permit, an armed forest guard where required, and a licensed boat. Check the weather and avoid cyclone season; carry water and food, as there is nothing on the beach.
