Built during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah around the turn of the 16th century, the Choto Sona Masjid is faced in stone carved with dense floral and geometric patterns. Its name, the Small Golden Mosque, comes from gilding that once covered the domes. It stands near the Sonamasjid border crossing, part of a cluster of monuments from the old city of Gaur. The carving around the doorways rewards slow, close looking.
